NSW: Thieves drive at police during attempted break in

Two police officers were forced to jump out of the way of a speeding car this morning after
interrupting two men trying to break into a supermarket in Sydney's inner west.

A police spokesman says the offenders had reversed a green Nissan 200SX coupe up to the
doors of the Summer Hill supermarket about 1.30am and were attempting to steal cartons of
cigarettes from the store.

But they were stopped by the two officers who pulled out their guns, ordering them to stop.

But the men jumped into the car and drove at the two policemen forcing them to jump out of
the way.

Police pursued the car but abandoned the chase soon after.

The officers didn't suffer any injuries.
