Holiday road toll climbs to 11

The National Road Toll has climbed to 13 with two deaths yesterday in an accident 300km
south of Darwin in the Northern Territory.

The men died after their car hit a tree about along the Stuart Highway 16 km north of Katherine.

They were trapped in the car for about 20 minutes before they could be freed, but died
in Katherine District Hospital.

The two deaths are the first in the Northern Territory for this Christmas-New Year period.

Meanwhile, the Victorian holiday road toll now stands at four, while New South Wales
has recorded three deaths, since the start of the holiday period on Friday.

In Queensland, three people have died on the state's roads and one person has died
in South Australia.

No deaths have been reported in Western Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory.
