Jun. 1--SCHENECTADY -- Two people were injured Thursday when more than a dozen shots rang out on a quiet street.
Police said the shots were fired in a driveway next to 653 McClellan St. shortly after 7 p.m.
At least two suspects fled in a gold Toyota Camry or Acura from the scene, authorities said.
Witnesses said at least one of the injured was loaded into a private vehicle -- a minivan -- shortly after the shooting and driven to St. Clare's Hospital across the street.
One of the victims was transferred to Albany Medical Center Hospital, while the other was taken to Ellis Hospital. No information on their identities or conditions was immediately available.
Joseph Sacco, a St. Clare's employee, watched as police roped off the scene and marked the shell casings, which continued up the driveway and into the street.
Sacco heard the shots, but figured it was just children playing with fireworks.
"I thought it was Fourth of July," Sacco said.
Police in a news release said evidence recovered at the scene indicates that two guns were used. Investigators are looking into the possibility that gunfire was exchanged between occupants of a moving vehicles and someone on the sidewalk and there was a victim from each side.
Schenectady police did not respond to phone calls seeking additional comment.
